Michael Appleton is a photojournalist working out of New York City. In 2004, he was named Photographer of The Year by the New York Press Photographer's Association. He received a World Press Photo award for his coverage of Hurricane Katrina in 2006. Originally from Maine, he graduated from the University of Vermont in 2000. After four years as a staff photographer for the New York Daily News, he worked as freelance photographer 8 years, primarly for The New York Times. For the past three years, Appleton is the Director of Visuals for New York City Mayor's Office, where he oversees all photo and video production.
