Michael Appleton is a photojournalist working out of New York City. In 2004, he was named Photographer of The Year by the New York Press Photographer's Association. He received a World Press Photo award for his coverage of Hurricane Katrina in 2006. Originally from Maine, he graduated from the University of Vermont in 2000. After four years as a staff photographer for the New York DailyNews, he is currently working as a freelance photographer. His work has been published in a variety of publications including The New York Times, Newsweek, Time, Vanity Fair, People, and Stern.
