Meet the Ferdous family: The mother, Eman with her two children, Souad and Hassan, ages 2 and 6, left Syria in 2012 to flee arrest and fighting to join her husband, Hassan in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn. In 2013, their father's parents fled Syria as well and now live in the family apartment in Brooklyn. The family is currently living here under Temporary Protective Status. Hassan is able to provide a relatively comfortable life for the family working as an electrician. Their daughter Souad suffers from PTSD due to her exposure to the heavy fighting she witnessed while in Syria. She is currently seeing a therapist and is thriving at home and at school.
